Why Should You Get Hip Replacements As Early As Possible

Hip pain can hinder day-to-day activities and leave you sore and stiff. You may want to stick to non-invasive treatment methods, but you should consider hip replacement surgery as an option – especially if you aren’t getting desired results with other treatments.

Most people see hip replacement as a solution for the elderly. However, if you have persistent hip pain due to extensive damage to the joint, you should consider getting a hip replacement regardless of your age.

Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t delay getting this procedure:

Arthritis May Worsen Over Time

Arthritis damages the hip joint, causing pain and discomfort when you move. If your arthritis is in the early stages, your orthopedic doctor may prescribe pain killers, topical medications, and physical therapy. If the pain persists, minimally invasive treatments may be recommended.

A lot of patients want to avoid surgery and rely on these treatment methods for far too long. If a treatment is not delivering the results you need, it shouldn’t be continued, and another solution should be explored. The reason for this is that some causes of joint deterioration continue to get worse. A prime example is arthritis. This condition has no cure and progresses as you age. Therefore, medications to control pain will only work for so long. After that, the joint will need to be fixed or replaced through surgery. Hip arthroplasty, or hip replacement surgery, removes and replaces damaged hip parts with new ones.

Certain types of arthritis that affect hip joints may require hip surgery based on their severity. These include:

  • Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease. Cartilage gets damaged, preventing the hip joint from moving smoothly.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis causes joints and bones to become inflamed, resulting in deformity and pain.
  • Osteonecrosis is caused by inadequate blood flow to joints. It can cause dislocations, fractures, or collapsed bones.

Your Hip Pain Affects Your Daily Activities

Often, people only consider hip replacement when unbearable pain completely prevents them from doing ordinary tasks. Some people push through the pain until it becomes excruciating. This should not be the case. If your hip pain is affecting your daily living and conservative treatments are not delivering relief, you should consider surgery. While it may seem like a big commitment that involves time off work, pain, and lengthy recovery and rehabilitation, in the long run, you will experience less pain and enjoy greater mobility.

Long-Lasting Relief

The best thing about getting a hip replacement is that it is a long-term solution. Conservative treatments can buy you some time, but they are not permanent solutions, which means you will only enjoy temporary relief.

Unlike these treatments, hip replacement tackles the root cause of hip pain. A new hip can last decades, so once your rehabilitation and recovery are over, you can live life without having to worry about hip pain.
